Unique Winter Dates with your favorite Snow Bunny

Hi pals!

Hope you’ve all had a great start to your year. After a month of snow days out west, I’m back in New York for some much needed family time (and home mountain reunions).  With Valentine’s Day taking center stage (and being the snow bunny that I am), I thought it only appropriate to share some of my favorite snow day date ideas.

While skiing may be the obvious day time activity at these resorts, February brings plenty of extra daylight after the last chair of the day, making late afternoon + sunset the perfect time to experience your favorite mountains in new ways.

Before we begin, thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share an accompanied gift guide (because cute base layers and chic cold weather accessories are ALWAYS welcomed by snow bunnies.)

I couldn’t kick this list off without a little home mountain love. Stratton Mountain in Vermont remains my go-to ski destinations out here in the Northeast. I love the cozy vibe of the village, the laid back feel you get from fellow skiers and riders, and above all, the trails! Did you know that on the summit, you can actually find a foot trail to Stratton Mountain’s fire tower? It makes for the perfect last chair activity - just bring a pair of snowshoes (and a thermos of cocoa for extra points). Because Stratton allows uphill travel, you can still ski down afterward, just let ski patrol know on your way up! On a bluebird day, the tower is the perfect place to view the surrounding Green Mountains in Vermont. The trail is an easy 1.5 out and back from the summit - take the gondola up and you’ll find the entrance right off of Mike’s Way.

My other home mountain (Mammoth Mountain, CA) is the perfect backdrop for this next activity. If you’re visiting from out of town, look into staying at Tamarack Lodge. Nestled in the scenic Lakes Basin, the cozy private cabins make for the perfect home base during your stay. Not only does it offer one of the mountain’s best dining experiences, but it’s also where you’ll find the Cross Country Ski Center. Daily rentals can be made in advance here. With trails practically off your front door, it’s the perfect excuse to go on a fun cross country ski or snowshoe adventure. Pro tip :: Head up the Panorama Dome Trail to catch sunset with a crazy view of Mammoth Lakes and surrounding peaks.

If you’ve spent all your energy on skiing the day away, this next après activity will be right up your alley. At Winter Park, CO, scenic gondola rides are FREE for mountaintop après hours (4-7pm on select Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays). Though technically not available as a Valentine’s date, it’s definitely worth saving for your next visit - Witness the alpenglow on Parry Peak and then cozy up near the expansive windows inside the Sunspot Mountaintop Lodge to experience the sunset all while enjoying cocktails, live music, and good company.

I’d be remiss not to include a few Ikon Pass Perks for these three destinations - Pass Holders can enjoy up to 20% off their midweek getaways and up to 15% on weekend visits throughout the season, and up to 15% off their rentals!

Pro Tip :: If you’re cold, that’s just an excuse to cuddle :)
